*JAMB tourney: Absu misses out of Jamb tourney despite ASUU strike

Virtually all the 16 institutions participating in the first JAMB tertiary institution football competition have confirmed their readiness to storm Ilorin for the tournament, despite the on-going Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) nationwide strike.
The National Executive Council of ASUU on Sunday declared an indefinite strike action in all public universities to press home the demand for the implementation of the 2009 agreement the Federal Government reached with the union.
16 institutions, which cut across the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Educations from the six geo-political zones of the country, will participate in the competition which will run between August 20th to 27th.
Matches will hold at both University of Ilorin and Kwara Football Academy.
In GROUP A are University of Agriculture (Makurdi), Kaduna Polytechnic (Kaduna), Shehu Shagari College of Education (Sokoto) and Kwara Polytechnic (Ilorin), while in
GROUP B are Federal Polytechnic (Nasarawa), College of Education (Oro), Delta State University (Abraka) and College of Education, Ankpa.
Federal Polytechnic (Offa) will play from GROUP C alongside University of Ilorin (Kwara),
Lagos State Polytechnic (Ikorodu) and College of Education (Minna), and the last group,
GROUP D has Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic (Sokoto), University of Nigeria (UNN) Nsuka, Federal College of Education (Gombe) and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (Bauchi).
Meanwhile, the Main Organising Committee (MOC) yesterday inspected all the facilities ahead of the commencement of the competition as the 25million tournament will is a success by preparation made already.
The Head of the inspection team, Pharmacist Kale Ayo, who is the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development in the state, led other members to inspect the pitches, hostel accommodation, medical facilities as well as the verification of security arrangements put in place for the tournament at both venues.
Pharmacist Kale Ayo, after the inspection, expressed satisfaction with the preparations.
