Hostel Vs Up-School Accommodation

We have received a lot of mails and messages especially from Fresher’s concerning their consideration of Staying in the Hostel or off campus.
We will start by Saying that the University built the Hostels for Students to live in and focus onwhy they are in school
While Lodges were built for students who can’t stay in the Hostels.

Advantages of Staying in the Hostel.
Security- The University Body has a well Defined Security System which keeps Students Secured especially from External attacks and the Man O war helps within the Hostels, Though there has been cases of Abuse of Power from the security but Our Emphasis is on the fact that the University has a well Defined security System.

Water and Electricity-Unlike Most Lodges in off-school, The University supplies Students with water, Various Water Outlets Includes, The waterfall close to SUG secretariat beside Hostel B Hostel, The Tap inside Hostel B courtyard, The Tap inside Hostel C ,The showers that runs once in a while, the Water Tap at Emergency Hostels ,The big tap at Abiola. Power is supplied in the Morning and evening, though some changes were made last semester and power comes only in the evening time, from 7pm-1am

Cheap Price of Food: Food Sold inside the University Premises especially the Hostel sides is been checked and Price Regulated by the Student Union Government, Thus the Price of Food is Usually Low compared to those sold outside. One can get a Quality handful of meal for a token. Check Padded ,Sino, Angel of Peace etc.

More Focus on Academic Activities- Hostel Do encourage Students to read because of its closeness to class room and lecture halls, Hostel Most Times Encourages People to read their by virtue of Night Class

Cheap Price of Accommodation: The Hostel Accommodation Fee is cheap Compared to off-school, With thirty thousand naira one can fetch a comfortable a bed space in the Hostel.

Disadvantage of Staying In the Hostel

Privacy: Since the Room is shared by more than One three Persons, the issue of privacy Usually Arises.

Sharing of Public Utilities: Most People don’t like sharing of utilities such as Toilets, Bathroom, and Buckets etc.

Theft: this is a recurrent Phenomenon among people in all walks of life and different places thus this also happens in the Hostel.so Keep your things SAFE!!!!!

Time Frame- Most Hostels Expecially Girls Hostels and Abiola is usually locked a specific Time mostly by 11-12pm hours of the Night,So movement into Hostels can be regimented.

Hostel May be locked and occupants forced to vacate when the university closes for a semester, Usually Affect Final years and most People in Medical Students in Mbbs Class.

Advantages of Lodge

Comfort: Most Lodges can to an extent give you the desirable pleasure by the way its been built and what you want, Most of the lodes in up school are self-contained.
Privacy: Since Not more than two People stays in a room in the Lodge, the problem of Privacy is ruled out!.
Lodges Do not Get Locked unlike the Hostels when School vacates, One can stay till the next semester resumes.

Security: Few Lodges enjoy maximum security, most Popular of them is the J&J lodge others may include Royal, Pemac ,Angels etc
Disadvantage of lodge or Staying in the Lodge
Porous Security System: Outside the University gate, security of lives may not be guarantee, cases of shooting in off school lodges and Hostels has been on recurrent books.

Robbing and Theft: The gravity of up school robbery is just like full scale home armed Robbery with Guns and machete.
Distractions: Distraction are everywhere but Up gate distraction is higher, Distractions from your academic activities and life e.g. Drinking, smoking, Clubbing, Cohabiting etc.

Expensive : Staying in up school aint shit, If you can’t cook ,get ready to throw money around ,because most food vendor places off-school sell at a fortune and not for a Token!!!, except for food places like “NNa mehn” Get that? Biking from your lodge twice or thrice a day, You know how much you are counting from the Atm? Pretty cool

Water And Electricity: Staying UP-school is like you living as a normal citizen in lagos …Yeah You foot your own water bills, You ve got to pay for water ,a gallon can go for 10-20 naira depending on the lodge. What about Electricity, I mean Nepa..Does such People exist in up school? Apart from Uturu ,Okigwe , electricity is a fluctuating phenomenon.

And Finally At this Point in time I believe that He that meant business ,I mean academic work will do well were ever he or she is, Please if you are easily Influenced ,Kindly stay in the Hostel.
