ABSU TO PARTNER ABIA STATE AGENCY FOR MASS LITERACY, ADULT AND NON FORMAL EDUCATION



The Vice Chancellor, Abia State University, Uturu, Distinguished Professor E. Uche Ikonne, has assured the Abia State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and non Formal Education of its readiness to partner them through the Faculty of Education in order to achieve their set targets of educating the people.

Professor Ikonne gave the assurance when the management of the agency paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He noted that the literacy level in Abia has been on a steady rise in the past 3 years, with the State taking top positions in different academic ratings in the country, because of the priority attention giving to education by the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Ph.D, in key areas like training and retraining of teachers, school feeding program from primary one to six, development of Public schools and so on, while the University key into the programs of the Governor to provide quality and uninterruped academic calender for Tertiary Education

Earlier, the Executive Director of the agency, Sir G.I Akarah commended the Vice Chancellor for his outstanding achievements in the University particurlarly in the areas of reduction in crime rate, Institutionalisation of Monthly Inaugural lectures, ICT Administration and Admission processes, Prompt processing and release of results, Prompt payment of salaries, as well as the establishment of the department of Adult Education in the University.
He stressed the need for a deliberate and consistent collaboration between the two organisations for mutual benefits.

In a vote of thanks, the Head of Department, Vocational, thanked the Vice Chancellor and members of Management for receiving them, and accepting to partner the agency.
