' our culture is our identity, we must always preserve and improve on it, - Prof Ikonne calls for Promotion of Igbo Culture.

The Vice-Chancellor Abia State University, Professor E. Uche Ikonne has reiterated the need for Ndigbo to promote and preserve Igbo Culture.
Professor Ikonne who made this known while declaring the maiden edition of Abia State University Cultural Festival open, called on Ndigbo across the globe to be proud of their cultural heritage and join hands for its promotion as well as the development of Igboland.

He maintained that, “Since our culture is our identity, we must always preserve and improve on it, irrespective of how educated or religious we think we are, because, if we allow our culture to die a natural death, then we shall be wallowing in the desert like sheep without shepherd.”

Giving more insight on the significance of the maiden edition of Absu Cultural festival, Prof Ikonne promised to appreciate the winners of the competition by paying One year tuition fee for them.
He further explained that Abia State University, being an institution widely known for excellence and service is not left out in Governor Ikpeazu's mandate of promoting the rich cultural and creative heritage of Ndigbo via promoting our locally made goods.(Made in Aba).
Delivering a lecture titled Odi n'ihu asusu na Omenala Igbo, the guest Lecturer Professor Innocent Nwadike made bold to state that concerted effort must be made henceforth by all and sundry throughout Igbo land to resuscitate the already drying Igbo language and culture.
He maintained that, "Since Our Culture is Our identity, we must always preserve and improve on it, irrespective of how educated or religious we think we are.
Professor Nwadike further called on Ndigbo across the globe to be proud of their cultural heritage and join hands for it promotion as well at the development of Igbo land.
Speaking earlier, the chairman Absu cultural festival committee, Ugoeze Roselyn Ndimele thanked the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for there initiative of making this program a reality.
The event attracted the presence of The Wife Of the Vice-Chancellor/ Permanent Secretary ministry of Agriculture Barr. Lady Uzoamaka Uche-Ikonne; Commissioner's; Captain's of Industries, Ndi Eze..including a representative of the Chairman Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers HRM Eze Silas...etc.
High point of the event was a display of cultural dance by various cultural group's, Debate in Igbo, Cooking competition, presentation of prizes to the winners,etc..
