FORMER UNN VC,Under EFFC Probe For Alleged Misuse Of Funds
A former VC of UNN, Prof. Bartho Okolo, is being probed following allegations he misused up to N3 billion during his tenure
In a recent petition to the EFCC, the South Eastern Zone of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) alleged that five of the companies to which Okolo awarded contracts were illegal.
"It is unheard of anywhere in the world that a vice chancellor will award contracts running into billions of naira to non-existing companies. We demand an urgent and thorough investigation," a CLO, South-East Zone, statement quoted by Vanguard read.
The former VC is being accused of misusing up to N3 Billion and failure to observe due process in awarding contracts by UNN Alumni Association, Workers' Unions.
They allege that Okolo awarded road contracts worth almost N100 Million and proceeded to pay over 90% of the contract sum though the they remain unexecuted.
Among the unfinished projects which Okolo awarded include the Pharmaceutical Faculty complex, School of Postgraduate Studies and Social Sciences complex.
Work is also yet to commence at the site of building housing the Department of Microbiology which Okolo reportedly pulled down weeks before his tenure ended. ad_client = "pub-15303"; ad_unit = 702; ad_type = "imagead-200-1";
