Abia govt procures 40 motorcycles to monitor rural schools

Reporting live from UMUAHIA—IN a bid to ensure proper monitoring and supervision of the activities of teachers in the rural schools in the State, the Abia state Government has given out 40 motorcycles to the state Ministry of Education to enable them access schools in the interior hinterland. The government explained that this move was to ensure that schools in rural areas are monitored and supervised to meet set standard. They are to be used by the zonal and area inspectors of education. The State deputy governor, Ude Oko Chukwu who handed the motorcycles to the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ikechi Mgboji, said they help the Ministry of Education to be able to know the condition of the schools in the rural areas as well as to ensure that teachers are alive to their responsibilities. Oko Chukwu who represented Governor Ikpeazu at the ceremony, however warned the Ministry of Education to use the motorcycles strictly for the purpose they were procured for. He warned that they should not be diverted for other uses. He explained that the government decided to ensure that standards are met in all schools because education remains the biggest industry in the state, and expressed joy that the state has consistently maintained the first position in the West African Examination Council, WAEC, exams for the past three years, saying that state needs to do everything to sustain the tempo.
