Insight on SRC -Absuvila Exclusive Interview with Precious Onyemachi

An absuvila interview with the Chairman house committee on Information and Publicity of the SRC Hon. Precious Onyemachi.
Absuvila:- Before we start this interview, can you tell the readers your name and portfolio.
Hon Precious Onyemachi:- my name is Hon. Precious Onyemachi and the Chairman house committee on Information, communication & Publicity of the hallowed SRC house.
Absuvila:- Can you tell us about the SRC, it's functions and composition.
Hon Precious Onyemachi:- The full meaning of "SRC" is "Students Representative Council" and we are the legislative arm of the Students Union Government (SUG).
Our functions are; To make laws, maintain checks and balances in the union by acting as good watch dogs over the other arms of government and adequately representing the interest of students in our various constituencies.
We are composed of 60 honourable members representing their various faculty constituencies, hostel and upgate. In summary the Students Representative Council are the voice of all the students in absu.
Absuvila:- What has the SRC achieved in the administration.
Hon Precious Onyemachi:- Thank you very much for that question. Well the SRC was inuagruated on the 27th of may 2016, and we had nothing in our account at the time of inauguration, even our SRC bus was parked somewhere in the mechanic village and we didn't even have a single letter headed paper to start up with. And on our inuagration day the speaker name the house of 2015/2016 the house of "Trail Blazer", this means the house that would make an impact and leave blazing trails on the SUG Soil. When our speaker gave us that name, I was just in my seat wondering how we are going to leave up to that name given the fact that we had no capital to start up his administration. But I thank God for the able leadership of Rt. Hon Aaron Innocent and our ever dodged house members whose relentless zeal and drive to move the house forward has made them to be sitting every Friday even without collecting a dime for sitting allowance. The house members took it upon themselves to make sure that SRC house of trail blazers leaves up to its name. So far the SRC has achieved a lot which includes;
- Ratification of the different SUG executive committees
- The man o war act that is currently being drafted to curtail the activities of the man o war.
- The set up of an audit committee to look into the finances of the Union and make sure all expenses are accounted for.
- we have been hosting an on air program title "INSIDE THE SRC " every Wednesday at Absu 101.9fm where the great Ikengas can air their views about the SUG.
- We have successfully and single handedly repaired and brought back our bus from the mechanic.
- we have also exercised our Constitutional duties of being a good watch dog to the SUG excos by probing erring officials and challenging them to work harder.
- we are done with some amendments on the SUG Constitution and it would be passed in our next sitting on Friday.
So far the SRC house of TRAIL BLAZERS is doing its best to make sure it lives up to its name and make a difference in the absu legislative world.
Absuvila:- What do you have to say about the suspension of Comr Atu Chidera the SUG D.O.S.
Hon. Precious Onyemachi:- well I don't have much to say since the matter has already been resolved except that the hallowed SRC house acted in line with its Constitutional duties.
Absuvila:- Finally our distinguished Honourable member, I want you to please enlighten our entire audience on how one can be a member of the SRC.
Hon Precious Onyemachi:- Well like I said Abinitio the SRC is made up of 60 honourable members, Two persons are elected from each faculty to represent them and three people are elected from upgate while one person is elected from each wing in the hostel summing it up to 60.
The SRC was made up of only 54 honourable members before according to our Constitution. But with the addition of new constitiencies from Algon hotel it's now 60.
Absuvila :- Thank you my distinguished Honourable for ur time, we are very delighted to have u here with us.
Hon. Precious Onyemachi:- the pleasure is all mine.
