Asuu has agreed to call off the strike once FG pays N50billion
The Academic Staff Union of University Today Made it clear to the public their demands before they could call off the strike and promise not to Re negotiate in 2020 in a statement released on their Handle Today.
In a conclusion made today, The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have asked the Federal Government to release N50 billion to demonstrate its commitment to the revitalisation of public universities, in line with previous agreements with the union.
The ₦50 billion will form the first tranche of the ₦220 billion government agreed for the project this year which will be added to the ₦20 billion earlier released for the year, The president of ASUU Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi , said if the Federal Government can mainstream the union’s demands especially on earned allowances in the 2019 budget, the union will not need to come back for negotiation in 2020.
“Government promised to mainstream academic allowance in 2017, starting from the 2018 budget but it was not done. If the government is promising it again, what steps have they taken, can we have evidence? Once beaten, twice shy.”
On the shortfall in salaries: “Government promised to release the shortfall in salaries by January 18th, that’s a day away. Let’s wait and confirm that they’ve released it.
The union has submitted its suggestions and awaits a meeting with the government next week.
That’s what we’ve been saying as our minimalist position.
Until next week when FG and ASUU will seat again for Re Negotiation About the conclusion of ASUU, if it goes in favour of the students the strike would be called off Aldo some Universities have pulled out of the Strike schools like Abia state University Kaduna State University, FUMA, OAU, LAUTECH and Yobe state University all state University would not benefit from the strike as they joined in solidarity to the union so till next week the faith remains undecided.
