I ve never been keen interest on progenitor of the igbo race till now, juxtaposed with the controversy of Jewish /Hebrew ancestry, I ve taken nights to search web directories, gone through scrolls, and finally bumped into Olauda Eqaino or Gustavus Vassa .
The man below is Olauda Equaino (spelt in igbo as Olauda Ikwuanno) was an igbo boy sold to Slavery around 1756 and after series of Slavery ordeal, finally settled in England after buying his freedom before his death , On March 1789 he published an auto biography of himself on his book titled the "The Interesting Narrative of the life of Olauda Equaino or Gustavus Vassa. Indeed it was a long narrative, buh I could deduce alot about the igbo people.
With his narrative I understood that the igbo nation has changed alot in cultures and ve lost a great deal of heritage. He revealed that the Eboe (Igbo) was a rich land.
On page 20 of narrative he stated "Our land was uncommonly rich and fruitful, and produce all kinds vegetables in abundance" .
And when it comes to hard work he stated on page 21
"Every one contributes something to the common stock, and as we were unacquainted with idleness, we have no beggars".
Olauda express Jewish links to the cultures of igbo on page 31 when he said "We practice Circumcision like the Jews" .
Now am not interested in #Ipob buh we need to sometimes understand our history, we need to read about our origin to fix up our land, the igbo nation is far beyond what it is in the presence, I implore every igbo men, women to take out time and read the narrative by Olauda Equaino, we need to study his life on our history classes. The igbo nation is far beyond what is today. Clarion call for consciousness of the igbo race should be reawakened and hallowed.
